(DJ, TV presenter, campaigner: 31/10/1926 –29/10/2011) What psychiatrist Dr Clare noticed, was that whilst Savile was spectacularly involved with the vulnerable, genuine interest or empathy for the people was starkly absent. He was struck by the “degree of disinterest”. The distance between these two things was too great to make any sense, and looking back, this was important. Years before the scandal broke, Dr Clare concluded that “there was something chilling about this twentieth-century ‘saint’ which still intrigues me to this day.”
